FOREFOOT PAIN

Forefoot pain can be an indication of joint or soft tissue damage so a diagnostic Ultrasound or Xray may be arranged at your first consult. Some conditions predispose to foot deformity. If you are diagnosed with a plantar plate tear this can result in toes spreading apart, crossing over or developing into a hammer toe. There are simple splints available to secure the toes and prevent deformity. Neuromas and bursitis can be very painful and often require soft orthoses as well as footwear with little or no flex at the forefoot (these are called rocker sole shoes)

Treatment of arthritis in the forefoot is largely geared around offloading pressure and reducing movement through the affected joints. Customised orthoses may be effective in reducing arthritic pain in conjunction with good footwear.
